December 7, 7.30Tous les Matins du Monde. Alain Corneau, dir., 1992. A cellist, Marais, falls in love with his teacher’s daughter, Madeleine. Banished from the house, Marais continues to learn through Madeleine. Alas, Marais grows content with what he’s learned and abandons her for the glories of Versailles. At the twilight of his career all that’s left are memories and thoughts of what might have been.

December 14, 7.30Diva. Jean-Jacques Beineix, dir., 1981. Kaleidoscopic images of sex and action unfold when bike courier Jules makes a bootleg recording of his operatic idol Cynthia. Diva’s distinctive New Wave look is as much a part of the film as its observations on alienated youth in 1980s France.
