Cinema St. Mark, A fall line-up of films, two each in September & October.

Sept. 21 – Ferris Bueller’s Day Off John Hughes, dir.,1986. We’ve never shown a comedy before, so I figured it was time. Already skilled at the art of cutting class and getting away with it, Ferris Bueller (Matthew Broderick) makes one last duck-out before graduation. He calls in sick, “borrows” a Ferrari, and embarks on a one-day journey through the streets of Chicago. A classic comedy worth seeing again.

Sept. 28 — The House of Mirth. Terrence Davies, dir., 2000. Based on the Edith Wharton novel. In 1900, New York socialiLte Lily (Gillian Anderson) discovers the precariousness of her position when, while seeking a wealthy husband, misses her chance for real love. Her quest for a husband comes to a scandalous end when she is falsely accused of having an affair with a married man and is rejected by society and friends alike.

Oct. 19 — Five Easy Pieces. (1970). A classical pianist (Jack Nicholson) rejects his cultured background, and hits the road in search of self.

Oct. 26 – Force Majeur (2014). A sudden disaster raises questions around one man’s personal identity.

Preserving season is in full swing and we hope you will do a batch or two for the Hollyberry Bazaar. N.B., Preserves must be prepared in approved jars and water-bath-processed to meet health and safety standards. Please leave your spare empty jam and jelly jars (125ml or 250ml size) at the parish hall to my attention. Thanks for your continuing support. Gwen (905-885-8798)
